A manufacturing controller is responsible for preparing month-end closings, financial forecasts, and consolidations; providing financial advice to the manufacturing department through the study of job costing; assisting meeting reporting requirements of the division; managing, training, and evaluating accounting personnel; ensuring accuracy of physical inventory; and controlling the flow of raw materials, tools, and other assets in the manufacturing department. Manufacturing Controller should have a strong experienced ability to close month end utilizing GAAP principles.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives
  • Studying and implementing federal, state, and local legal requirements, filing reports, filing taxes and communicating with management on needed actions
  • Preparing the trial balance and financial statements, including, but not limited to, balance sheet, income statement, corporate annual report and statement of cash flows
  • Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
  • Coordinate the provision of information to the external auditors for the annual audit
  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
  • Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
  • Performing reconciliations for bank and general ledgers, as well as payroll processing
  • Ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Supervising tasks of accounting clerks and entry-level bookkeepers
  • Maintain the chart of accounts
  • Preparing depreciation schedules by tracking fixed assets
  • Performing accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including collections
  • Maintain Credit checks on new customers while overseeing credit limits on existing customers
  • Controls with Credit before releasing jobs or parts out to Customers

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of the company operations
  • A thorough knowledge of accrual and cash basis of accounting
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ERP system 
  • Provide financial analyses as needed, for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiation
  • Proficient in Excel and Word
  • 5 or more years of experience in the accounting field
  • Show the ability to adapt and learn new techniques and skill sets when required
  • Union Payroll experience preferred
  • Strong organization skills
  • Outstanding skills in analyzing financial data and promptly generating accurate reports
  • Ability to multitask and attention to detail are critical
